weezy blogging through the bars.

On March 9th of this year Lil' Wayne (aka Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., aka Weezy, aka The Fireman, aka Weezy F. Baby, aka Young Carter, aka Birdman Jr., aka Best Rapper Alive) arrived at Rikers Island penitentiary in New York City to begin serving his one-year jail sentence on a weapons conviction, stemming from a 2007 arrest. Weezy Pleaded guilty for a reduced 12-month sentence, and is expected to only serve 8 months, on good behavior.

It is no secret that social media has proved to be a remarkable tool for musicians. Between twitter, myspace, and facebook fan pages, performers are more connected to their fan then ever before, and Lil' Wayne is no exception. Prior to his incarceration Weezy was an avid blogger and tweeter, always showing love to his fans. Currently he has the second most popular myspace music page, his twitter account (@liltunechi) has 327,807 follows (one being me, obvi.) and his Facebook page has 3,521,904 fans at my most recent count.

One would think that being in jail would stop a recording artist from being able to keep in touch with their fans, but Lil' Wayne has proved otherwise. Although The Best Rapper Alive cannot tweet, he can blog, kind of ... Lil' Wayne's people have set up a website titled Weezy Thanx You, a blog they will be keeping updated as Carter sends them letters from jail.

In Letter #01 (the only one to date) he states his intentions of the website "During my prison stint, I want my fans to know I love you. I want all of you to know that I appreciate all the mail I get, and this is my way of saying thank you." Wayne continues to provide individual shout-outs to fans that have provided him with hope and support through the letters they have sent. Weezy Thanx You provides the address to reach Lil' Wayne (or Dwayne Carter NYSID# 02616544L) as well as a running countdown until his return home.

So, if you want to know what's up with weezy just check out his blog.
